Great success at the first edition of "Els Barris Pedalen" in the Santa Eugènia neighborhood of Girona

The city of Girona welcomed the first edition of “Els Barris Pedalen” with great interest, an event dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility and healthy habits through the use of bicycles. Held on Saturday, December 14 at the Núria Terés Park in the Santa Eugènia neighborhood, the event brought together hundreds of people of all ages to enjoy a day filled with activities and learning about cycling.

The event, organized by the Girona City Council and supported by the socio-economic cluster Girona Innovació, Salut i Ciclisme (GISC) in collaboration with Sea Otter Europe, was a resounding success in terms of participation, especially among families, who were able to enjoy a wide range of activities tailored to all audiences.

One of the highlights of the day was the joint bike ride, a 70km cycling route that allowed participants to experience a cycling event similar to the Ciclobrava of Sea Otter Europe, also organized by the same team. This activity, open to all levels, saw the participation of a large number of cyclists who rode through the landscapes of Girona in a festive and collaborative atmosphere.

Children also had their own space at the event, with activities specially designed for them. The most popular attractions were the traffic safety circuit, organized by the Catalan Traffic Service, where children could learn how to ride their bikes safely while having fun with various obstacles and challenges, and the jump circuit and other educational games, allowing younger participants to enjoy cycling in a fun and educational way.

In addition to the street activities, the cycling brands Megamo and Ecobike were present with exhibition areas and bike tests, giving attendees the opportunity to try out models of cutting-edge urban bicycles that promote sustainable mobility. The information point of Girocleta, the city’s bicycle transport service, was also available to introduce its services and promote the use of bicycles as an urban transport mode.

The day was not only a celebration of cycling but also an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about sustainable mobility in Girona. The activities and demonstrations allowed attendees to learn more about green transport alternatives, how to properly use bicycles in the city, and the benefits of incorporating cycling into their daily lives. Platforms like Mou-te en Bici, which offers transportation services for elderly people and organizes tandem outings for blind individuals, among other activities to ensure that bicycle mobility reaches everyone, were also featured.

The success of “Els Barris Pedalen” reflects the growing interest of citizens in improving the quality of life in the city, promoting healthier and more environmentally responsible habits. The collaboration between the Girona City Council, the GISC cluster, and the Sea Otter Europe festival was key to the realization of this event, which is expected to become a promotional tool in the city’s neighborhoods.
